The ELDR Certified Documentation Specialist (ECDS) is the Institute's professional certification for documentation architects, senior technical writers, and content engineers responsible for enterprise-scale documentation systems. The program covers DITA/XML architecture design, docs-as-code ecosystems, single-source publishing, content lifecycle governance, and the structured authoring standards required in regulated industries (aerospace, healthcare, defense, financial services). Designed for practitioners who build documentation infrastructure — not just write documentation.

Information architecture principles for enterprise documentation. The documentation ecosystem: authoring tools, content management systems, publishing pipelines, and delivery platforms. Architecture decisions and their long-term consequences.

Module 2

DITA/XML Architecture Design

DITA topic types: concept, task, reference, troubleshooting. DITA maps and bookmaps. Content reuse strategies: conrefs, keyrefs, and conditions. DITA 1.3 and DITA 2.0 specifications. Oxygen XML, Adobe FrameMaker, and MadCap Flare implementation.

Docs-as-Code Ecosystems

Git-based documentation workflows. Markdown for structured authoring. CI/CD pipelines for documentation: GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Azure DevOps. Static site generators: Docusaurus, MkDocs, Sphinx. Review and approval workflows in a docs-as-code environment.

Regulated Industry Documentation Standards

S1000D for aviation and defense. FAA-STD-2494B writing standards. FDA 21 CFR Part 11 documentation requirements. ISO 13485 design control documentation. Medical device labeling standards.

Module 5

Content Governance and Lifecycle Management

Content strategy and governance frameworks. Taxonomy design and metadata schema. Content lifecycle management: draft → review → approval → release → retirement. Governance platforms: IXIASOFT CCMS, SDL WorldServer.

Module 6
4 days
Enterprise Publishing and Delivery

Single-source publishing strategies. Output format management: HTML5, PDF, EPUB, WebHelp, CHM. Localization-ready documentation architecture. Accessibility compliance (WCAG, Section 508, AODA).

Capstone

Enterprise Documentation Architecture Design

Design a complete enterprise documentation ecosystem for a simulated regulated organization. Deliver: DITA architecture specification, publishing pipeline design, governance framework, and taxonomy schema.

Is this certification recognized externally?

The DSP credential is an ELDR Institute professional designation. It is grounded in the same regulatory frameworks (ISO 27001, NIST, AICPA) referenced in enterprise and government hiring requirements. Continuing education credit applications are in development.
