Research Analyst — Sovereign & Capital Markets

Produce institutional-grade research on sovereign debt, capital market dynamics, and financial regulatory developments across Africa and international markets.

Level: Mid-Senior (5–10 Years) Type: Full-Time · Hybrid Location: London, United Kingdom

About the Role

The Research Analyst for Sovereign & Capital Markets is a specialised role within ELDR Intelligence, focused on the intersection of sovereign finance, capital market structure, and financial regulation across African, UK, and international markets. ELDR's clients include financial institutions, sovereign entities, asset managers, and development finance institutions operating in environments where capital access, regulatory positioning, and sovereign risk are actively managed. This analyst provides the research infrastructure that underpins that work.

Responsibilities

  • Produce structured analysis of sovereign debt dynamics, Eurobond markets, credit ratings developments, and IMF/World Bank programme trajectories for African and emerging market sovereigns
  • Track financial regulatory developments across priority jurisdictions — UK FCA, SEC, FSCA, CBN, Bank of Ghana, and multilateral standard-setters (FATF, FSB, Basel Committee)
  • Develop capital markets intelligence products covering bond issuance, currency dynamics, foreign reserve positions, and institutional investor sentiment
  • Support Advisory and Consulting teams with financial due diligence research, regulatory gap analysis, and market entry intelligence
  • Contribute to ELDR's published research library including the ELDR Capital Markets Brief and Signal Premium tier
  • Maintain a structured database of sovereign financial indicators, ratings actions, and regulatory events across coverage markets

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in sovereign credit research, fixed income analysis, development finance, or financial regulatory analysis
  • Deep working knowledge of African sovereign debt markets and their interaction with international capital markets
  • Familiarity with multilateral development finance — AfDB, World Bank, IFC, EBRD, Afreximbank — and their market dynamics
  • Strong quantitative literacy with the ability to work with financial data and produce data-informed analytical narratives
  • Undergraduate degree in economics, finance, or related field; CFA, graduate degree, or equivalent professional qualification strongly preferred

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience at a credit rating agency, sovereign wealth fund, DFI, or international investment bank with EM/Africa coverage
  • Familiarity with Pan-African financial regulatory harmonisation initiatives — AfCFTA, PAPSS, AUDA-NEPAD
  • Knowledge of Islamic finance structures and their application in African markets

What We Offer

  • Central analytical role in a firm with growing institutional presence across African and international capital markets
  • London base with access to UK institutional networks and pan-African financial institutions
  • Direct publication credit on ELDR Intelligence research products
  • Competitive compensation with performance-linked structure
